"Local FileName is Too long" and "Error creating a directory"

Because of a limitation in Microsoft Windows which does not allow to create paths that are longer than 256 characters, you might get this notification when syncing data from our servers to your local Vault.

Nomadesk adds an extension to the path/file when it is being synced down to your local Vault, for as long as the synchronisation is not complete. When the synchronisation is finished, we rename the file/path to its real name.

However, adding the extension can exceed the path length limitation in Windows and your computer will refuse to create the (temp) file, causing the synchronisation not to work properly. The only work around for this is to shorten the filename.

I was having the same issues, but for some reason if I convert the folder I want to import to a .zip file, I can then transfer into my vault. I had a folder with multiple sub-folders and files, so I pressed right-click and sent to compressed (zip) folder. I then opened the .zip folder and transferred the file into my vault. Hopefully it works for you guys.

May I suggest Long P@th T00l (replace 0 with o and @ with a) It's the best fix you can get for this problem.

Shortening the name is just one simple thing you can do in this case but if you really want to get rid of this issue totally, you should try GS Richcopy 360. It has helped me a lot in file synchronization, backup and error free file transfer. Hope it helps!
